Whiter Smiles to Brighten the Lives of Kennedy Krieger Kids A Unique Program Benefits Children with Autism
Federal Hill Smiles is helping children in need – one smile at a time. This spring and summer, as part of the Crown Council’s Smiles for Life campaign, we offered teeth whitening services at a significantly reduced fee, and donated 100% of the proceeds to help children facing serious health and educational problems.
During the four-month campaign, we raised over $15,000. Half of the funds will go directly to Kennedy Krieger Institute’s LEAP program – an intensive, special education program that is personally important to Dr. Markoff, and teaches functional life skills to many of Maryland’s children and adolescents diagnosed with autism. The remaining funds will be distributed to national children’s charities through the Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation.
“As the mother of a child with autism, I have seen first hand the positive impact that Kennedy Krieger’s LEAP program can have on a child,” said Dr. Markoff. “This fundraising effort will help ensure that many other families in our communities also benefit from the program.”
“We had a great campaign this year and would like to thank everyone in the community who came out and helped to make it a success by purchasing whitening services during our campaign,” explains Dr. Markoff. “It has been great seeing the beautiful smiles of our patients after performing whitening services – but it is even better to see the smiles on the faces of the children our contributions are helping to support.” Federal Hill Smiles has participated in the Crown Council’s Smiles for Life campaign since 1998, and has raised more than $77,000.
